SUMMARY: TRABUS is seeking a dedicated and skilled full-time Senior Network Engineers to join our team in San Diego, CA. This exciting opportunity supports the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific Networks Division that plans, manages, and executes communications, networking, and IA aspects for DoD program and project requirements.

The specific task is to provide engineering, technical, and programmatic services for communications and networking systems, and associated certification and Information Assurance (IA), for new developments, current operations, and planned upgrades to support engineering efforts for the PEO C4I PMW 160 Tactical Networks. The primary work location will be on site at the NIWC Pacific Topside location and some travel may be required.

This position requires practical knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing protocols and a high-level understanding of all network design phases at NIWC Pacific. The candidates should possess hands-on experience administrating, installing, and troubleshooting the Automated Digital Network System (ADNS) on board U.S. Navy Ships or at U.S, Navy Network Operations Centers. The Senior Network Engineer requires technical responsibility experience on technical projects and should have a successful history of task accomplishment, effective time and project management skills, and very good written and verbal communication.

The Senior Network Engineer will support the NIWC Pacific Afloat Networks Technical Authority’s systems engineering, design, integration, testing, and IA certification efforts by providing technical guidance and performing the following activities for the U.S. Navy afloat communications and networking systems.
  • Research, design, and test complex wide-area computer networks and applicable hardware and software. Hardware includes, but is not limited to, routers, switches, servers, inline encryptors, and modems.
  • Troubleshoot networking or design problems.
  • Attend regular meetings serving as an ADNS Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Develop technical briefs and present them to leadership and members of change control boards.
  • Monitor and meet associated project deadlines related to assigned engineering change requests.
  • Decompose high-level business and system requirements into smaller, detailed tasks to facilitate low-level network design.
  • Produce technical documentation in support of engineering solutions that include, but are not limited to, architectural drawings, detailed design specifications, and thorough implementation instructions.
  • Review, recommend, and write updates to technical documentation in support of the U.S. Navy.
  • Test and evaluate new technologies.
  • Develop, update, and maintain Program of Record (PoR) documentation.
  • Cisco certifications at the professional or associate level.
  • At least one security certification that is Cyber Security Workforce (CSWF) compliant.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of technical experience designing ADNS or similar networks.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of technical experience installing and validating ADNS or similar networks.
  • Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Applications
  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or Electrical Engineering is desired, or equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) is preferred.
  • Experience working satellite programs is preferred. 
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail, procedural compliance, and the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
