SUMMARY: TRABUS is seeking an experienced Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer II to join our team in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will apply their expertise in tactical communications and RF systems engineering to support development, testing, integration, and optimization of advanced RF solutions for defense applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, develop, test, evaluate, and sustain RF and Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems.
Perform system-of-systems (SoS) architecture design, implementation, integration, and certification.
Conduct debugging, optimization, performance, requirements, and compliance testing.
Generate technical documentation, including test plans, test reports, and interface control documents (ICDs).
Lead and support test and evaluation (T&E) activities, including laboratory and field demonstrations.
Apply principles of communications theory, modulation, RF propagation, link budgeting, and system-level design.
Support the design and implementation of low-probability-of-detection/intercept (LPD/LPI) and anti-jam communications capabilities.
Conduct RF hardware development, including analog/digital component integration and SDR-based prototyping.
Utilize electronic test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, etc.) for RF analysis.
Support systems engineering activities related to open architecture standards such as SOSA, CMOSS, OMS/UCI, and AMS GRA.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
Minimum three (3) years within the past seven (7) years of professional experience in T&E, debugging, testing, integration, optimization, characterization, performance, and compliance testing for tactical communication systems.
Minimum three (3) years of experience performing RF engineering tasks in DoD or intelligence environments.
Demonstrated experience with SDRs (e.g., Ettus USRP), RF component design, and hands-on prototype development.
Strong understanding of RF hardware (LNAs, PAs, switches), baseband processing, and digital signal processing techniques.
Experience designing and executing tests using tools such as MATLAB, LabView, and RF test instrumentation.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Clearance: Active Top Secret or Top Secret Eligible (SCI access preferred).
Experience:
7+ years of experience working with open architecture constructs like SOSA, CMOSS, OMS/UCI, AMS GRA.
7+ years of experience with LPD/LPI waveform development and anti-jam capabilities for tactical comms.
Demonstrated ability to lead R&D and IR&D efforts supporting U.S. military programs.
Experience authoring patents and peer-reviewed technical publications.
Contributions to system design meeting DoD performance metrics (e.g., BER, SNR, throughput, line-of-sight range).
