SUMMARY: TRABUS has an opportunity for a dedicated and highly motivated full-time Data Scientist-Software Engineer in support of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Submarine Acquisition Program Office. As a Data Scientist-Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and modernization of our scientific codebase to optimize product generation processes and facilitate deployment to cloud-based or other platforms for the COLUMBIA Class submarine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Migrate applications and requisite data to a new environment with no change in application architecture and minimal changes to application code (i.e., "lift and shift”)
Migrate applications and requisite data with no change in application architecture and modest changes to application code to leverage the benefits of the new environment, such as cloud native computing capabilities (i.e., "replatform”)
Restructure applications and rewrite code to remove technical debt, meet modern standards, exploit cloud capabilities, and improve overall performance, without significantly changing the original functionality (i.e., "refactor/rearchitect”)
Redesign and recode applications from scratch while retaining and/or broadening their original scope and specifications (i.e., "rebuild”)
Manage software using source code tools and maintaining requisite documentation (e.g., business rules, operational procedures)
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related discipline) with 5+ years of relevant experience
Experience in the development and maintenance of scientific operational software in a variety of programming languages and development environments, including, but not limited to, Oracle/APEX, Groovy, Java/JavaScript, React, Spring, ArcGIS, Fortran, and Python
DESIRED:
Must be proficient in MS Office Applications
Must have strong written and oral communication skills
Must demonstrate attention to detail, procedural compliance, and the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously while meeting deadlines
EDUCATION:
BS in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or a related field
