Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid; two days/week on-site)
Salary Range: $160k to $175k
Clearance: Active DoD Secret Clearance required (TS/SCI desired)

SUMMARY:
TRABUS is seeking a Senior Space Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC), and the Multi-User Objective System (MUOS), the DoD UHF geo-stationary constellation of satellites. In this role, you will serve as a critical technical liaison across space and ground segments to ensure seamless integration and sustainment of mission systems. Leveraging cross-domain expertise, you will lead efforts in risk management, cryptographic compatibility, system lifecycle planning, and technical coordination among diverse stakeholders, including SSC, NSA, CE, Mission Delta 8, vendors, and internal engineering teams. Your work will ensure continuity, mission assurance, and effective collaboration across government and contractor organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead ground and space systems integration efforts with focus on cryptographic compatibility and mission continuity.
  • Provide lifecycle engineering support from pre-launch planning through sustainment operations.
  • Ensure synchronization with CGN Baseline Space/Ground, SLE Space/Ground, ILS, and engineering teams.
Technical Liaison & Coordination
  • Act as the primary conduit between CGN Space & Ground, CGN Engineering, CGM (logistics/maintenance), and related units.
  • Ensure consistent two-way communication among stakeholders including SSC, CE, NSA, Mission Delta 8, and vendors.
  • Support continuity of operations amid personnel transitions, maintaining institutional knowledge.
Risk Management & Advisory
  • Identify, evaluate, and document programmatic and technical risks.
  • Collaborate with risk management leads and working groups to propose balanced mitigation strategies.
  • Advise leadership on tradeoffs between mission assurance, cost, and schedule.
Space Control SME Support
  • Provide subject matter expertise on sustainment and operational aspects of space systems.
  • Support system certification and accreditation activities including COMSEC, TRANSEC, cybersecurity, and program protection.
  • Provide orbital analysis support (collision avoidance, station keeping, relocation, visualization).
Vendor & Mission Assurance Oversight
  • Review vendor deliverables, CDRLs, technical documentation, and provide structured government feedback.
  • Support contract writing (task orders, SOWs, PWSs).
  • Assist with Constellation Status Reviews, sustainment planning, and roadmap development.
Data & Specification Management
  • Track ownership and status of space/ground specifications.
  • Review and document system CONOPS and cryptographic systems for compatibility.
  • Monitor technical performance measures across program phases.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Space Operations, Physics, or related field (OR 18 years of equivalent experience in lieu of degree).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in satellite systems engineering.
  • Strong cross-domain knowledge of space and ground systems, cryptographic systems, cybersecurity, and mission assurance.
  • Proven ability to manage risks and advise leadership on tradeoffs between cost, schedule, and mission priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to coordinate across diverse stakeholders.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance and U.S. Citizenship required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with MUOS or other military satellite communication systems.
  • Knowledge of military SATCOM systems, protocols, and sustainment operations.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for satellite systems engineering.
  • TS/SCI clearance.
